New obligations for motor car traders On 4 March 2008 the Victorian Parliament passed legislation to amend the Motor Car Traders Act 1986. These amendments included the extension of cooling-off rights to new car purchase and new obligations on motor car traders to have a Police Check Report on employees engaged in a customer service capacity. Before these important changes to the Act come into force you have an opportunity to have your say about the impact of the proposed new regulations. A Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) which explains the new regulations and outlines their effect on motor car traders, has been prepared and is available on Consumer Affairs Victoria's website. Comments from motor car traders and other industry stakeholders are welcomed and will need to be submitted before the deadline of 5pm Tuesday 19th August 2008. Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Regulations 2008 Consultation The Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Regulations 1997 are due to expire on 22 December 2008. It is proposed that they will be replaced by the Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Regulations 2008 (General Regulations) and the Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers (Exemption) Regulations 2008. The General Regulations prescribe such matters as fees and record keeping requirements, while the Exemption Regulations retain and update the current exemptions. A Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) has been prepared which assesses the relative costs and benefits of the proposed Regulations, and is available on the Consumer Affairs Victoria website. Public comments or submissions are sought on the RIS and the General Regulations. All submissions must be received by 5pm Tuesday 19 August 2008. |
