Information and Privacy
The Victorian Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) gives you the right to access your personal and non-personal information held by Government agencies, including the Business Licensing Authority (BLA). Privacy laws on the other hand outline how the BLA manages your personal information.
The FOI Act lets you access documents about your personal affairs and the activities of government agencies. You can also request that agencies amend or remove incorrect or misleading information they hold about you.
How can I make a request?
- Prepare a letter that clearly describes the information you want to access.
- If the information you want to access concerns your personal affairs (ie. contains your personal information), you should provide evidence of your identity. For example, a photocopy of current photo identification (for example, a driver's licence). If you are unsure about what type of ID to provide, contact the BLA Registrar
- Post the form to the Registrar with the appropriate application fee. Please make cheques payable to the Business Licensing Authority. No cash please.
Important: To start processing your request, the application fee must be included, unless you are eligible to have the fee waived.
To claim a waiver of the application fee you must establish that payment of this fee would cause you financial hardship. If payment would cause you hardship please include documents of support with your application.
If you are unsure what to include with the request, or have any questions contact the BLA Registrar.
