Professional Indemnity Insurance

To be eligible for a Victorian Conveyancers licence, you must hold or be covered by the prescribed minimum level of Professional Indemnity Insurance of $1.5 million.

A Ministerial Order identifies the insurer as Resource Underwriting Pacific Pty Ltd, and sets out the standard professional indemnity insurance requirements for all Victorian conveyancers.

It is the licensee operating the business i.e. sole trader or company who will need to take out the required insurance policy. If you are an employee or a working director of a licensee, you will be covered by your employer's insurance policy.

Obtaining the insurance is a compulsory part of the application process. At the same time as you lodge your licence application with the BLA, you must lodge the Professional Indemnity Insurance Proposal Form with the Victorian Conveyancers Professional Indemnity Insurance Program. The Professional Indemnity Insurance Proposal Form can be found on the 'Application Forms' page.

If you have any technical enquiries as to the scope of insurance coverage, please contact the Insurer. The Insurers contact details can be found on the Professional Indemnity Insurance Proposal Form. Your query will be answered by an insurance support member who will ensure you will receive assistance and advice from the Insurer within one hour, during business hours.

A Questions and Answers fact sheet is also available to answer any questions you may have about the insurance process.
