Qualifications and Experience

Experience

You must meet at least one of the following criteria to be eligible for a conveyancers licence:

  • Have successfully completed a recognised law degree AND have either:
    • successfully completed the approved practical legal training requirements or corresponding practical legal requirements  OR
    • completed 12 months full-time or equivalent part-time experience within the last 5 years carrying out conveyancing work under the supervision of an Australian Legal Practitioner (with a practicing certificate authorising them to be a principal of a law practice) or a licensed conveyancer (who is not a provisional licensee).
  • Have 12 months full-time or equivalent part-time experience within the last 5 years undertaking conveyancing work for an Australian Legal Practitioner (with a practicing certificate authorising them to be a principal of a law practice) or a licensed conveyancer (who is not a provisional licensee)

A persons work experience with a conveyancer will only be considered where their conveyancing work experience has been carried out under the supervision of a full/unrestricted licensed conveyancer. Experience working for a provisional licensee cannot be considered. 

Qualifications

You must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Have successfully completed a law degree where study for the degree commenced before 1 July 2008, together with demonstrated competency in establishing, managing and administering trust accounts(per FNSCONV503B –below);
  • Demonstrated competency in all six subjects of the Commonwealth Government national standard published by the National Training Information Service:

1. FNSCONV501B take instructions in relation to a conveyancing transaction; 

2. FNSCONV502B prepare and analyse and execute documents; 

3. FNSCONV503B establish, manage and administer trust accounts; 

4. FNSCONV504B finalise conveyancing transactions; 

5. FNSCONV601B obtaining and analysing information for a conveyancing transaction; and 6. FNSICORG603B negotiating to achieve goals and manage disputes;

  • Have successfully completed a Diploma of Financial Services (Conveyancing) conducted by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology or Victoria University where study for the diploma commenced before 1 July 2008;
  • Successfully completed an Associate or Advanced Diploma of Business (Legal Practice) where study for the diploma commenced before 1 July 2008, together with demonstrated competency in establishing, managing and administering trust accounts (per FNSCONV503B –above).
