Estate Agents Public Register

Online Public Register

Search the register for free, to find licensed estate agents and key details. Check that the estate agent or agent's representative you are dealing with is on the register.

The purpose of the Estate Agents Register is to provide the public with access to information about licensed estate agents, agents representatives and other people involved in an estate agency business, and to record names of persons declared ineligible to hold a licence or be an agent's representative.

The requirement to maintain a register is outlined in section 33 of The Estate Agents Act 1980.

The Estate Agents Register consists of the following information:

  • licence number issued by the BLA
  • name and registered office of licensee
  • date of grant, surrender, cancellation or suspension of the licence
  • licence conditions
  • any Tribunal or court orders concerning the estate agent or agent's representative that affects the license or status of the agent's representative of which the Registrar has notice
  • any claims allowed by the Victorian Property Fund (or any fund established under a previous enactment) in relation to a licensed estate agent or agent's representative of which the Registrar has notice
  • address and telephone number of principal office of the licensed estate agent
  • if the licensed estate agent has branch offices, the address of each branch office, name of each branch manager, date of appointment or cessation of appointment of each branch manager
  • if the licensed estate agent is operating under a franchise agreement, the name and address of the franchisor, and the date of commencement or cessation of the franchise agreement
  • if the licensed estate agent is a corporation, the name of each director, the date of appointment and cessation of appointment of each director, the name of the officer in effective control, the date of appointment and cessation of appointment of the officer in effective control
  • if the licensed estate agent is an employee, the name and address of the employee
  • if the licensed estate agent is an employee of a licensed estate agent, the name and address of the employer
  • if the licensed estate agent employs agent's representatives, the name and registered address of each agent's representative, the date of commencement and cessation of employment of each agent's representative
  • if the licensed agent employs licensed estate agents, the name of each such employee and the date of commencement and cessation of employment
  • all business names under which estate agency business is conducted
  • Australian Business Number (if any)
  • internet site address maintained for the purpose of an estate agency business
  • details of applications for a licence refused by the Authority in the last 2 years
  • details of permission determinations under section 31A, 31B or 31C of the Estate Agents Act 1980. Under these sections you are required to lodge a permission application if you wish to work or continue to work in the estate agency business
  • notwithstanding, a claim being admitted against you from the Victorian Property Fund, being a bankrupt or a person who is an insolvent under administration, or in the last 10 years being convicted or found guilty of any offence involving fraud, dishonesty, drug trafficking or violence which is punishable by imprisonment for 3 months or more (whether or not a sentence of imprisonment was imposed)
  • any other information prescribed by the regulations as forming part of the register.


Subject to the Public Records Act 1973, the Registrar may, if in his or her opinion it is no longer necessary or desirable to retain it, remove any information from the register 12 years after the information was added to the register.

You can obtain from this register two types of extracts, a partial extract and a full extract.

You can request a partial extract online via the Online Search of Estate Agents Register. A partial extract contains only current information about a licensee.

A full extract will provide you with all historical as well as, current information about the person or company. A full extract can be obtained  from the BLA by forwarding a written request to the Registrar.
