Introduction Agents

The Introduction Agents industry in Victoria is regulated by the Introduction Agents Act 1997 and the Fair Trading Act 1999. The Act seeks to overcome unfair and unscrupulous practices, and protect consumers. It sets standards for the industry, including restrictions on who can work in the industry.

Who is an Introduction Agent?

An introduction agent is a person or company who carries on a business of providing, or offering to provide, an introduction service by undertaking to match or provide names and details of individuals for personal relationships or social outings.

Notification

Unless exempt or ineligible under the Introduction Agents Act 1997, you must provide, at least 30 days before setting up an introduction agency, a Notice of Intention to Act as Introduction Agent to the Business Licensing Authority (BLA), outlining that you intend to operate as an introduction agent.

Fees

Notification Fee: $222.10

Annual Notification Fee: $52.60

GST is not applicable to the above fees.

Penalties for trading without notifying the BLA

Trading as an introduction agent without being eligible or having notified the BLA, risks substantial fines or prison.
