Motor Car Traders Public Register
Online Public Register
An online search of the motor car trader register is available for free.
The purpose of the register is to enable members of the public to have access to information about licensees and to record details of a person, partnership or body corporate declared to be ineligible as a licensee, director or partner or person concerned in the management of a motor car trader or employed in a customer service capacity.

The requirement to establish a register is outlined in section 22 of the Motor Car Traders Act 1986.
The Register of Motor Car Traders consists of the following information:
- licence number issued by the BLA
- name of licensee
- date licence granted
- date licence surrendered, cancelled or suspended
- licence conditions
- details of any Tribunal or Court orders concerning the licensee affecting the licence and of which the Registrar has notice
- details of any claims allowed by the Motor Traders Claims Committee (or any like fund established under a previous enactment) in relation to a licensee and of which the Registrar has notice
- business names under which a licensee is authorised to operate, including the date of commencement and cessation of operating under each name
- business addresses and telephone numbers from which a motor car trading business is conducted including the date commencement and cessation of business at those premises
- if the licensee is a corporation the names of the directors and date of appointment and cessation of appointment of each
- if the licensee is a partnership, the name of the partners, date each person became and ceased to be a partner
- ABN number (if any)
- Internet site address maintained by the licensee for the purposes of a motor car trader's business
- details of permission determinations under section 29A, 29B or 29C of the Motor Car Traders Act 1986
- details of applications for a licence refused by the BLA in the last 2 years
- any other information prescribed by the regulations as forming part of the register.
Subject to the Public Records Act 1973, the Registrar may, if in his or her opinion it is no longer necessary or desirable to retain it, remove any information from the register 12 years after the information was added to the register.
You can obtain from this register two types of extracts, a partial extract and a full extract. The register is now available online and you will be able to request a partial extract online. A partial extract contains only current information about a licensee, a full extract will provide you with all historical as well as current information about the person or company. A full extract can be obtained from the BLA by forwarding a written request to the Registrar.
